PODCASTING is a new way of listening to "radio", for lack of a better analogy. To put it simply, it's new technology that allows audio content to be automatically downloaded to your mp3 software like iTunes, or even cooler, to your iPod or other mp3 player.  It works through a new web language called RSS (Really Simple Syndication). You can receive shows automatically in your iPod, and don't have to do anything! Every morning you just get up, plug in your headphones, and listen all day!

Now, we know you probably could care less about all the tech jargin, and you're just here to figure out how to use this cool technology to get weekly downloads of Chapel Hill's messages automatically. However, if you would like more info on the tech side of things, or would like tutorials, etc on how to set your computer / iPod up for this service (which is free by the way), here is a great place to get started: www.ipodder.org.   Our official RSS feed for Steve's weekly message can be subscribed to by simply entering the following url into your ipodder software:

One final note, this is a technology that is exploding both because of the coolness of the format and the freedom it gives the average-Joe to create right from their home. With that said, please realize that this is an unregulated media format (the FCC has no power here), and so it is not hard to come across content that may be offensive to some listeners. Obviously, we will never have anything like that in our own podcasts, but each listener will need to decide for themselves what other podcasts he/she feels comfortable subscribing to, if any.  Just as you decide what to watch and what not to watch on TV, you can decide what to listen to and what NOT to listen to on your MP3 player.

Enjoy the amazing new world of podcasting!
